eDNA sampling device prototype test

On June 13, 2024

We're thrilled to share that we've tested the first prototype of our marine eDNA water sampling device in Piran with our project partners Morigenos, Dolphin Biology and Conservation and Shoreline.

This device is a key component of SeaInsights project, which aims to improve conservation and management of the Northern Adriatic through eDNA-based biodiversity monitoring and public participation.

Here’s why this prototype is a big deal:

  • Efficient eDNA collection: The device pumps seawater through filters as the boat sails along a designated route, streamlining eDNA collection.
  • Collaboration is key: The development and testing involved our team at Divjalabs, the Slovenian field experts Morigenos, and the Italian partners DBC, University of Padova, and Shoreline.

This test brings us closer to comprehensively assessing marine biodiversity in the Northern Adriatic, including the early detection of invasive species. Stay tuned for further updates!
