A good study design is a blueprint for your project. It will take into account the specifics of your question, your study site and available resources. It will leverage your resources to where they are most needed. It will scale the sampling and other field effort so that you’re certain to get your desired answer, but will not waste your resources by oversampling and hitting the diminishing returns. It will include risk assessment and plan for contingencies.
